Antagonist Binds AND Blocks Activation
This prevents exongenous and endogenous agonists from
altering the receptor and the neuron.  Generally good antagonists will have a greater binding affinity than agonists.
This allows Narcan to replace opiate and negate its effects
Agonist Binds AND Activates Receptor
Ion flow is altered, allowing greater or fewer ions into the neuron, increasing or decreasing the probability that the neuron will fire an action potential
